The Mansfield man whose wife drowned their son in the back-yard hot tub has now been sentenced to probation. Michael Maxon was convicted of abandoning the infant and placing him in immediate danger of death or serious injury. Even though he was repeatedly warned by experts, Maxon left his mentally ill wife alone with baby for awhile one day in 2006. When he came back from running errands, she had drowned the little boy. She was found not-guilty on an insanity defense but Maxon was convicted and sentenced to ten years. After five-and-a-half months behind bars, he will spend the rest of the ten years on probation under unusually tight restrictions, even though Tarrant County prosecutors pushed hard to have the judge make him serve his time in prison.
